HISTORY CURRICULUM INTENT STATEMENT
INTENT
At Butterwick C of E Primary School we intend to inspire pupils to develop a love of history and see how it has shaped the world they live in.
A range of sources will be used to enable children to think critically and develop an understanding of historical concepts and processes. They will research significant periods in time which will provide them with the tools to evaluate the past and develop an understanding of why it has been interpreted in different ways.
They will have an opportunity to develop an understanding of the key historical features of their locality as well as the wider world.
IMPLEMENTATION
Our History curriculum at Butterwick C of E Primary School is based on the National Curriculum and linked to our termly topics. All lessons build on prior learning and knowledge organisers are used to support knowledge development and key vocabulary.
The curriculum is enquiry based, which enables children to develop historical skills and concepts which are transferable to whatever period of history is being studied and will equip them for future learning. These key historical skills and concepts, which are revisited throughout different units, are:
